Our Commitment to Sustainable Practice

RVM Australia has built its reputation over 25 years on a simple principle: supply quality products through ethical, well-managed processes. That principle extends naturally to how we approach sustainability.

Why packaging matters to RVM

As a wholesale importer and distributor, RVM does not manufacture products — but we do specify, approve and are responsible for the packaging that every one of our products enters the Australian market in. Across six brands and multiple product categories — from large furniture cartons to small appliance boxes — our packaging decisions directly affect:

  • How much material is used per unit
  • Whether that material can be recycled by the end consumer
  • How much packaging waste reaches landfill
  • The carbon footprint associated with shipping and logistics

These are decisions we can influence, and we are committed to influencing them in the right direction.

Compliance with Australia's packaging and plastics legislation

Australia has undergone significant legislative change in recent years, with every state and territory having introduced bans on single-use plastics and expanded polystyrene (EPS) packaging. These bans, which have rolled out progressively from 2020 through to 2023 across the ACT, SA, QLD, WA, NSW, VIC, TAS and NT, reflect a national commitment to eliminating unnecessary plastic and foam waste from the supply chain.

RVM Australia's packaging practices are fully compliant with these legislative requirements across all states and territories in which our products are sold. In practice, our product packaging uses no EPS (expanded polystyrene) and minimal single-use plastics. The cardboard-based protective packaging solutions we use across the portfolio are not only compliant with current legislation — they align with where Australian packaging regulation is heading more broadly.

We regard this not as a compliance exercise but as the right approach to packaging design. Products can be protected, presented and delivered to retail without relying on materials that cannot be responsibly disposed of by the end consumer.

Our APCO commitment

RVM Australia is a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) — Australia's leading packaging sustainability program, operating under the National Packaging Targets framework. As an APCO member, RVM has committed to:

  • Reviewing the packaging used across all six brands against the Australian Packaging Sustainable Design Guidelines
  • Reporting annually on our progress toward the 2025 National Packaging Targets
  • Improving the recyclability, recycled content and overall sustainability of our packaging on an ongoing basis
  • Publishing our Annual Report Summaries publicly on this website

Our broader commitments

Product quality and longevity

We believe the most sustainable product is one that doesn't need replacing. Our brands are built around quality that lasts, reducing the frequency with which products are discarded and replaced.

Manufacturer selection

We import from manufacturers across the globe, and our selection criteria include quality standards, packaging practices and ethical business conduct. We do not work with manufacturers who cannot meet our standards.

Continuous improvement

Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. We review our practices annually through the APCO reporting process and look for opportunities to improve across the portfolio.

Transparency

We publish our APCO Annual Report Summaries on this website because we believe transparency is part of what it means to take sustainability seriously.
